Welcome to Nursery
St James Church School Nursery
Nursery Aims
In our Nursery we aim to:
-
provide a welcoming, exciting and carefully structured environment where your child will feel happy and secure and able to achieve his/her full potential.
-
provide a broad and balanced curriculum which is based upon the revised EYFS, a thorough knowledge of child development, good early years practice and the individual needs of each child.
-
recognise that as parents you are the child's main educators in life and strive to develop strong links between home/school.
Nursery Structure
We have two rooms in our Nursery:
Squirrels Room
Our Squirrels room caters for children aged 2-3 and supports our youngest children with a calm nurturing space to develop and thrive at nursery.
Acorns Room
Our Acorns room caters for children aged 3-4 and supports our children in preparation for their next step towards school. There is a large outdoor space and there are opportunities to explore our forest school area twice a week.

How we learn at Nursery
At Nursery we learn in lots of different ways, using interactive and fun resources, and taking advantage of our brilliant indoor and outdoor spaces.
Please click the link below to find out more about how we learn at Nursery through stories, number songs, music and Forest School.
Family - Learning Journals
We record observations and assessments of the children, to create an online learning journal. This means that parents/carers can access their child's learning journal at home without having a big folder full of paper to look at. You will have your own personal log-in where you can see what your child has been doing at Nursery. We will aim to do several observations each half term, and some of these may link to the "Next Steps" planning for your child's development. We will have ideas for you to use at home to help with this.
You can also add your own observations of things your child has done at home. It might be a picture of a fun day out, or them playing with a favourite toy!
Celebrating Learning
In each room we have a Celebrating our Learning Tree.
Please take a leaf home and with your child draw, paint, stick or write something that your child is learning to do such as
“I am learning to put on my own socks” and if you wish, you can attach a photograph of your child trying.
